American Museum of Natural History

Brooklyn Museum

Ellis Island Immigration Museum

400 years of American’s immigrant history are on display and honored here. You can access passenger arrival records of more than 22 million people entering New York between 1892 and 1924. And even listen to the voices of actual immigrants. Don’t miss the American Immigration Wall of Honor – the world’s largest wall of names, with more than 600,000. Catch the ferry at Broadway and Battery Pl., lower Manhattan.

Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

This 900-foot aircraft carrier, which served in World War II and Vietnam, is Manhattan’s only floating museum. You’ll see the A-12 Blackbird spy plane, a Concorde, numerous helicopters, and two dozen other aircraft. Other exhibits in this popular New York attraction include the Growler guided-missile submarine, an Apollo space capsule, and the 900-foot destroyer Edson. Madame Tussaud’s New York

The worlds of film, TV, music, sports, history, and politics come alive as more than 200 celebrities – from President Obama to Miley Cyrus – appear in all their wax glory. 234 W. 42nd St.

Metropolitan Museum of Art

It’s actually a collection of museums you could spend your entire vacation enjoying. Best to pick your favorites from European paintings, Egyptian art, Renaissance masters, American glass, Asian art, French sculpture, and the list goes on. 1000 5th Ave. at 82nd St.

Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)

With its permanent collection of more than 150,000 paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, and film, MoMA is the finest collection of late 19th and 20th century art in the world. Van Gogh, Boccioni, Malevich, Picasso, Lichtenstein, and many more are all here in one New York tourist attraction. If you’ve ever wanted to see Warhol’s famous soup cans, this is the place. 11 W. 53rd St.

Museum of the City of New York

Discover the often-quirky history of New York in this engaging showcase of architecture, fashion, history, and politics. Don’t miss the toy collection and the exhibits celebrating entertainment, cultural identity, and ethnic traditions. 1220 5th Ave. at 103rd St.

Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

The unmistakable spiral design of Frank Lloyd Wright houses a core collection of Abstract art. Works by Brancusi, Calder, Klee, Chagall, Leger, Mondrian, Picasso, Oldenberg, and more. Start by taking the elevator to the top and spiral your way down. It’s the only “downhill” museum tour in New York. And if you want a richer understanding of the works, take advantage of the museum’s free tours. 1071 5th Ave., between E. 88th and E. 89th streets.

Whitney Museum of American Art

Its permanent collection contains more than 18,000 works of 20th- and 21st-century American art. Impressive displays from Jackson Pollock, Jasper Johns, Chuck Close, and Cindy Sherman will capture your imagination. You’ll also find such notable works as Hopper’s Early Sunday Morning, Bellow’s Dempsey and Firpo, and Alexander Calder’s Circus. 945 Madison Ave. at 75th St.
